Install DBO Studio
DBO Studio runs in two ways. Pick the one that fits how you work.
| Desktop app | Self-hosted web | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | One person on their own machine | A team, or access from any browser |
| Runs on | macOS, Windows, Linux | Any host that runs Docker |
| Login | None, it is your app | Optional email and password login |
| Data | Stays on your computer | Stays on your server |
Both use the same features. You can start with the desktop app and self-host later.
Desktop app
- Open the releases page.
- Download the installer for your system.
- Install and open DBO Studio.
The app keeps its data in your user folder:
| System | Location |
|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/dbo/ |
| Windows | %APPDATA%\dbo\ |
| Linux | ~/.dbo/ |
macOS says the app is damaged
macOS can block apps that were downloaded outside the App Store. Clear the quarantine flag once, then open the app again:
bash
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/DBO.app
Docker
Run the official image and keep its data on a volume:
bash
docker run -d \
--name dbo \
-p 9000:9000 \
-v "$(pwd)/dbo-data:/backend/data" \
ghcr.io/dbo-studio/dbo/dbo:latest
Open http://localhost:9000.
Warning: This starts DBO Studio without login. Anyone who can reach port 9000 can use your saved connections. Before you open the port to other people, turn login on. See Authentication and users.
For Docker Compose, TLS, and upgrades, see Docker.
